A guide to Serie A 2026/27: format, league numbers and how to read its odds
Twenty teams, 38 rounds. What our data says about the Italian league: 42.6% home wins, 2.73 goals a game, and a margin roughly a third below the average listing.

Serie A is a single division of twenty teams: each plays all the others twice, home and away, across 38 rounds and 380 matches. The top places lead to European competition — exactly how many depends on that year's UEFA ranking, so we don't fix a number here — while the bottom three go down to Serie B.
That is the structure. What follows are the league's numbers, measured against our archive and our listing — the part you usually won't find written down anywhere.

Attributed by country rather than by name: «Serie A» also exists in Brazil and Ecuador, and counting them together would inflate every row. ⚠ These are figures from thirteen seasons, not from this one: as of 14 September 2026 the league has played four rounds, far too few for a season average to mean anything. Two readings. First: home advantage in Serie A is the lowest of the five major leagues — 42.6% against LaLiga's 46.0% and the Premier League's 45.6%. Second: the last three seasons score less than the historical average, 2.54 goals against 2.73, and Under 2.5 has risen from 48.2% to 52.1%.
What it costs to play
In the reading taken on 14 September 2026, the median margin on the full-time result is 6.57% on Betsson, 6.44% on Betflag and 4.03% on Netwin, calculated across the thirteen Serie A matches in the listing.
The comparison that gives it scale is with the whole listing: across all 565 football matches not yet started, Betsson's median is 9.88%. Serie A costs about a third less than the average listing, and is one of the cheapest competitions we carry — alongside the Premier League, the Bundesliga, LaLiga and the Europa League, which in the same reading all sit between 5.70% and 6.59%.

Where in the calendar prices move most
The calendar matters, but not for the reason usually given. We tested the idea that midweek rounds change results and it doesn't hold: for the same team, playing on three days' rest instead of six shifts the win rate between −0.1 and +3.3 points depending on the league, which is to say nothing.
What does change is the time the books have to adjust. A midweek round has tighter windows between prices going up and kick-off, and more closely spaced matches to update. International breaks do the opposite: two weeks in which a price stays exposed.
What to look at in a Serie A round
- The table says little early in a season: with four rounds played, two results move a side six places.
- Goal averages over three or four matches are fragile. An average of 3.33 goals per game across three games is the effect of one rout, not a rate.
- Archive head-to-heads cover every competition: among two sides' six most recent meetings there may be a Coppa Italia tie, and between two promoted sides they may all be Serie B.
- The margin changes from match to match within the same round: across the ten on 18-20 September it ran from 5.82% to 7.20% on Betsson.
