ADM self-exclusion: how Italy's single self-exclusion register works

It doesn't exclude you from one site: it excludes you from every Italian-licensed operator at once. How to request it, what changes between temporary and indefinite, and what it doesn't cover.

Self-exclusion is a request to be barred from remote gambling. What separates it from closing an account is scope: it goes through the register held by ADM and applies across every Italian-licensed operator simultaneously, not just the one where it was requested.

That is why it works. Closing an account leaves all the others open, and the decision has to be retaken each time; self-exclusion takes it once for the whole licensed perimeter.

How to request it

From the personal area of a betting account, in the responsible gambling or self-limitation section, or directly with ADM. Identification is required, because the exclusion attaches to the person and not to the account: that is exactly what makes it effective with operators where you never opened one.

⚠ The exact steps and forms are defined by ADM and can change: the source to consult is the Agency, not an operator's page or an article like this one.

Temporary or indefinite

⚠ Temporary self-exclusion runs for a defined period. What happens when it expires, and whether the choice can be revoked during it, are procedural details set by ADM: they are the part that matters most, and should be read at the source before being relied on. It exists to create a break, and that is where its usefulness lies.

The indefinite form has no end date. Coming out of it requires an explicit request and, as a rule, isn't immediate: a minimum period must pass before revocation can be asked for. Here too the precise rules are ADM's, and that is where to check them.

Choosing between the two isn't a choice between «less serious» and «more serious»: it is between an interruption and a decision. If you are weighing the temporary one for the second or third time, that itself is the useful information — that you keep coming back to it.

⚠ What self-exclusion doesn't cover

  • Operators without an Italian licence. The register applies inside the authorised perimeter and has no reach outside it: one of the concrete reasons a licence matters.
  • ⚠ Land-based gambling, whose relationship with the register is set by ADM's rules and should be checked there: don't assume you are covered outside remote gambling.
  • Accounts in other people's names, for obvious reasons.
  • And it isn't treatment. It is a tool that removes access, which is useful and isn't the same as addressing why it was needed.

If you need more than an account setting

Italy has a national telephone service for gambling-related problems, the Telefono Verde run by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità: the number and its hours are published on the Institute's site. It is the right route when the problem is larger than a setting, and asking has no consequences for your betting account.

You will never find an invitation to gamble on this site, and this page is no exception: self-exclusion is the feature that makes a betting account something you can genuinely close, and it is worth knowing it exists.
